Where Memory Wanders Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Tuesday, October 7, 2025

Los Angeles Mission College’s Arts, Media & Performance (AMP) Gallery will present “Where Memory Wanders,” a new exhibition curated by emerging curator and art historian Gloria Ortega. Featuring the work of contemporary Latinx artists Karla Diaz, Manuel Lopez, Arlene Mejorado, and Jose Guadalupe Sanchez III, the exhibition explores memory in both personal and collective forms through painting, mixed media, and photography.
“Where Memory Wanders” invites viewers to consider how memory, place, and imagination intersect. The artists’ works weave together narratives of family, urban landmarks, and identity through vibrant compositions of color, symbolism, and storytelling. While some pieces depict recognizable people and places, others embrace a more surreal or ephemeral quality, reflecting the fleeting nature of memory.
Mapping across geographies throughout Los Angeles — including the San Fernando Valley, East Los Angeles, West L.A., and the South Bay — the works transform symbols and landscapes into portals that blur the line between the real and the imagined.
“I am incredibly honored to curate this exhibition at the AMP Gallery in Sylmar,” Ortega said. “It is especially meaningful to spotlight Latinx artists whose work explores memory in both personal and collective forms. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share these pieces with the Valley community, and especially with the students at Los Angeles Mission College.”
